Title Two Maps of South East Brazil Showing Railway Lines
Reference MFQ 1/788
Library The National Archives
Date 1916-1918
Description The maps were originally enclosed with letters to the Foreign Office in January 1918 from Brazilian railway companies seeking the Foreign Office's support in petitioning the Brazilian Government to permit the raising of freight rates in the face of rising wartime costs. The first map shows the line, extensions and branches of the San Paulo (Brazilian) Railway Company, as well as showing a 'privileged zone' within 18-19 miles of main lines and the north and south 'coffee zones'. The second map of the Leopoldina Railway shows relief and drainage, main settlements, state boundaries and connecting railways.
