Description | This is a satirical prospectus for the fictional 'Munchausen Oil Company'. The document was produced to satirise the fraudulent selling of shares for lands that had no indication of the presence of oil in any kind of abundance. After the discovery of oil in Pennsylvania, the ensuing oil rush led to great amounts of land prospecting, with fraudsters running rife. Note the list of items that were struck at the 'Munchausen Well', these include ale, lottery tickets, the milk of human kindness and a peace proposition. |
