Description Journal documents the North West Company's activities in the English River District. Included within the journal is an account book for the employees of the North West Company who were assigned to the district, accounts of goods sent and left at the district's various posts, a name index of all of the individuals who appear in the account book and a list of Cree words for trading goods. The post journal also documents events at Pond's Fort for the brief period from 1 April 1786 to 9 May 1786. The journal entries are one of the earliest contemporary accounts of a North West Company post. Included in the journal is information on the interaction with indigenous peoples, the weather, the trading and packing of furs, the construction of canoes, the making of pemmican, occurrences of note (including a flood at the post) and the establishment of new trading posts in the Athabasca region.
