The journals were used by Sir James Hayes, Deputy Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, to prepare diplomatic representations regarding French actions at Port Nelson in 1684. In 1685, the Hudson's Bay Company's Sub-Committee ordered Hayes to return the journals to the Hudson's Bay Company; he finally complied in 1687. |
